Heretic Ii

After reviewing the umpteenth first-person shooter, Heretic II is a welcome change. Not only does it adopt the 3rd-person perspective, but it does this extremely well. Like Tomb Raider you can go anywhere and do pretty much anything you would do in real life. Unlike Tomb Raider there is much more emphasis on action and finding clever ways to dispatch your enemies. There’s no need to memorise a huge number of keyboard combinations either, as Corvus will do the obvious automatically.

Heretic_2_box.jpg In Heretic II, Corvus has a powerful arsenal of nearly a dozen offensive and defensive magic spells to complement his weapons of war. Through the essence of mana, Corvus can invoke deadly spells such as fireballs, firewalls, thunder blasts and the Sphere of Annihilation. The powerful Tome of Power can imbue nearly any spell or magic item with properties far beyond normal effects at the cost of serious mana-drain. Other defensive abilities include the Ring of Repulsion, Meteor Swarm, a teleportation spell and the temporary but potentially deadly Morph Ovum incantation that turns any target into a chicken.

HereticII.com Beginning many years after the original Heretic, Heretic II sets you upon an epic quest across an entire continent to find a means to cleanse a world infected with a deadly magical plague that has victimized the people of the realm. As Corvus - the character from Heretic who has been banished to the Outer Worlds by D'sparil - you perform a variety of acrobatic, swimming and climbing maneuvers in order to penetrate the mystery of the plague. Exploring city, swamp, canyon and dungeon levels, you use a variety of offensive and defensive spells such as the Sphere of Annihilation, Repulsion and Fireball in conjunction with a magical bow and staff to defeat a multitude of insane plague-ridden denizens of Parthoris.

In Heretic II you play the role of Corvus, the Elf guy from the original Heretic. Corvus rid his world of the first Serpent Rider, D'Sparil and was outcast from his world; in Heretic II he finds a way back only to find his world struck by a mysterious plague. Corvus himself is contaminated and you must help him find an antidote for him, and his people.
