  3. Newspaper Articles -- Paper
Newspaper articles are fun to read ... and there are many interesting things you can find in the newspaper that you might never find online. If you love reading the paper, but you don’t have the time any more, you can pay the fee (if your favorite newspaper offers the service) so that you can read your paper from your computer each day. This is great for someone with little time in the morning, but a long commute on the train, as long as they can get a connection, that is. Otherwise, you might just need to buy the newspaper articles the old fashioned way instead.
  4. Wikipedia -- Wikipedia Articles
Wikipedia articles, flawed as they are, can often be a good first reference for someone with no knowledge at all of a topic, especially if they have good references. After reading a Wikipedia article, it is usually possible to enter a few search terms in google or another search engine and find more credible material on the same subject, confident that you are using the terms that are recognized there. Indeed, it is the ability to find several dozen to a hundred or so hits on google that is often used as a criteria for an acceptable title of an article. This one good feature is abused by applying it to subtitles... and generally by applying it only to subjects politically disliked by the sysops.
  5. News Server -- Articles
NetWare News Servers will delete a message before that time if the header in the article has the expiration flag set. You can modify settings such as this one by clicking the Expiration button on the NetWare News Server configuration screen. Of course, extending the settings beyond their defaults will have a direct impact on the amount of disk space needed to store the messages for the discussion groups on this server.
  6. Google Maps -- Google Local
Here's an article on the Google Maps image from a local (to the high school) newspaper. Not a lot of info in there about the prank itself, but they do say that it happened back in 2004.
  7. Internet -- Access
Net Neutrality (wikipedia entry here) is the current long wave issue on the Internet. Essentially, the issue is whether Congress should enact legislation that would prohibit telecommunications carriers from charging large Internet sites (Google, Yahoo, MSN) a premium for access. The carriers argue that these sites require more resources to support and therefore should be charged more. The sites argue that non-discriminatory access is essential to supporting a free and open marketplace. Here are articles on the San Francisco Chronicle, Washington Post, and the USA Today.
  8. Independence Hall -- Continental Congress
Independence Hall, a red-brick structure, near the center of Philadelphia, where the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and Constitution were signed. Built between 1732 and 1757 for speaker Andrew Hamilton to serve as provincial Pennsylvania's state house, it became the meeting place of the Continental Congress during the American Revolution and retains many relics from that era. Adjoining Congress Hall, where the House and Senate met during the 1790s, and Old City Hall, where the Supreme Court deliberated, Independence Hall completes the grouping of historically important buildings on Independence Square.
  9. Christmas -- Families
"The American Family Association says it will begin in June 2006 reminding national retailers that the word "Christmas" is not a four-letter word for most Americans, and it deserves to be included in store promotions and greetings in November and December." Click here for the article.
  10. Wal-Mart -- Wal-Mart Watch
In the drugstore industry - as well as supermarkets and discounters with pharmacies - Wal-Mart ... caused a pricing stir late last year when it sliced the price of generic drugs to $4 in select markets. Target immediately followed, as did other chains. However, Walgreens and some drug operators tried to educate patients about the fine print on the deal and stayed the course on pricing. Still, the generic pricing cut is being closely watched and could have a big impact on pharmacy business in the future.
