Heracles: Sons
built 645 days ago
Just before Heracles was born, Zeus boasted on Olympus that a son of his blood would be born that day who would rule over the House of Perseus. The always jealous Hera, who knew of her husband's tryst with Alcmene, made Zeus swear to this boast.

Hercules strangles the serpents Heracles captured and killed the Cercopes at Ephesus. The Cercopes were said be dwarfish monkey-like or ape-like men. They were renown for their knavery. According to a short fragmented poem, named after them, The Cercopes. Their names were Passalus and Acmon, and they were the sons of Oceanus and Theia. Theia was a daughter of Memnon, an unknown figure.
Heracles again took revenge on King Eurytus. He killed all his sons and kept Iole, who he once tried to marry, as a sacrifice to his father. Deianeira heard about this and thought Heracles might still love her. So, Deianeira sent a servant to put the love potion on Heracles, but the potion was actually poison. The poison killed the mortal body of Heracles.

Hercules Many popular stories were told of his life, the most famous being The Twelve labors of Heracles; Alexandrian poets of the Hellenistic age drew his mythology into a high poetic and tragic atmosphere[5]. His figure, which initially drew on Near Eastern motifs such as the lion-fight, was known everywhere: his Etruscan equivalent was Hercle, a son of Tinia and Uni.

Heracles and the Cerberus Having performed all twelve labours Heracles was now free from any more obligations to Eurystheus. He was left to his own device. Eurytus, king of Oechalia, was offering his daughter's hand in marriage (Iole), if one of the suitors could defeat him or his sons in the archery contest. While Heracles was receiving education, Eurytus had taught archery to the young Heracles, which the king was soon to regret.
When Heracles 1 sailed in order to fetch the Belt of Hippolyte 2, he came to the island of Paros, where the sons of Minos 2 lived. But on landing on the island, some of Heracles 1's men were killed. Indignant at this, Heracles 1 killed the sons of Minos 2, and besieged the rest. And when he left, he took the sons of Androgeus as hostages.
