Heracles: King Eurytus

The seventh labour, Heracles needed to fetch the Cretan Bull, the bull that belonged to Minos, king of Crete. This bull was sacred to Poseidon, and had the ability to walk and run on the surface of the sea.

Heracles 1 learned about Heaven's agreement from the Pythian priestess, when he, after having run amok in Thebes maddened by Hera, came to Delphi to inquire about where he should dwell. There the Pythia told him to dwell in Tiryns and serve Eurystheus for twelve years, performing the Labours that the king would impose on him, adding ... that when the Labours were accomplished, he would gain immortality.

Heracles still saw the need to expiate his grave crime or sin, so he went to Delphi to consult with the oracle. The oracle of Delphi told him that he need to serve his cousin, Eurystheus, king of Tiryns and Mycenae, who would devised ten labours (later twelve), as his punishment for his crime of murdering his own family.

King Thespius of Thespiae in Boeotia entertained Heracles 1 for fifty days, and each night bedded one of his daughters with him. The children of Heracles 1 by the daughters of Thespius were called Thespiades. Two of them remained in Thebes, and seven in Thespiae. All the other Thespiades joined Iolaus 1 in the founding of a colony in Sardinia.
