Heracles: Gods
built 629 days ago
As Heracles was returning to Tiryns with the hind, Artemis spotted the hero carrying off her favourite animal. Artemis would have attacked the hero, but Heracles explained to the angry goddess of his task: how he had not wanted to harm the creature. Heracles brought the Cerynitian hind to Tiryns, alive and unharmed, at the goddess' request.
Heracles, meaning the pride of Hera is not a very fitting name. Hera The queen of the gods, Zeus' wife, knew that Heracles was the result of the union of Zeus and another woman. Hera despised the young demigod, and set out to destroy his life more than once.

Unfortunately, Heracles had a terrible enemy: the goddess Hera. Hera was so annoyed by Heracles' strength and fame that she cast a spell over him. As a result, he committed a terrible crime. Seeking forgiveness, Heracles was told to perform twelve very difficult tasks for the king, Eurystheus.
Luckily for Heracles, he often had the gods on his side. This enabled him to get out of some pretty sticky situation during his twelve tasks. Much to the chagrin and amazement of Eurystheus, he completed each task as it was set forth.
Heracles wrestles the river god Achelous in order to marry Deianeira. Later in the marriage, Heracles exiled himself and family becauseHeracles unintentionally slapped and killed a servant. As they came to a river Centaur Nessus was there and helped Deianeira cross the river while Heracles went first. Nessus thought Deianeira wasbeautiful and raped her inthe river. In repentance, Nessus gave her a love potion that he said would keep Heracles from loving another woman.

During the course of his life, Heracles married three times. His first marriage was to Megara, whose two children he murdered in a fit of madness and whom he later gave in marriage to his companion Iolaus, because the sight of her was too painful. His second wife was Omphale, the Lydian queen or princess to whom he was sold as a slave. His last marriage was to Deianira, for whom he had to fight the river god Achelous. (Upon Achelous' death, Heracles removed one of his horns and gave it to some nymphs who turned it into the cornucopia.) Soon after they wed, Heracles and Deianira had to cross a river, and a centaur named Nessus offered to help Deianeira across but then attempted to rape her. Enraged, Heracles shot the centaur from the opposite shore with a poisoned arrow (from the Lernean Hydra) and killed him.
