Since 1985 Dr. Samueli has ... been a professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he has supervised research programs in broadband communications circuits and digital signal processing. He has published over 100 technical papers in these areas and he is a named inventor in 32 U.S. patents. He has been on a leave of absence from UCLA since 1995. Dr. Samueli has also been a Distinguished Adjunct Professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at UC Irvine since 2003. He was the Chief Scientist and one of the founders of PairGain Technologies, Inc., a telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the digital subscriber line (DSL) industry, and he consulted for PairGain from 1988 to 1994. From 1980 until 1985 he was employed in various engineering management positions in the Electronics and Technology Division of TRW, Inc., where he was responsible for the development of military broadband communications systems.

"The gift to our school further enables us to attract the best and brightest minds in the world," said Nicolaos G. Alexopoulos, dean of The Henry Samueli School of Engineering. "It ... helps us meet the rising demand for engineering talent in Orange County and California, thus helping to ensure our continued prosperity and our ability to make a significant contribution to the economic growth of the region." In addition to a presentation by Samueli, the day's ceremonies will include remarks from S. Sue Johnson, chairman of the UC Board of Regents, as well as Atkinson, Cicerone and Alexopoulos.

While working at TRW, Samueli ... taught part time at UCLA until 1985, when he was offered a tenure-track position in the electrical engineering department. He jumped at the opportunity to teach full time. “Being a professor is one of the most rewarding professional careers there is,” he says, “because you are working with bright minds, hard-working kids who are eager to learn.”
Samueli attended UCLA, where he received his bachelor's degree (1975), master's degree (1976), and Ph.D (1980), all in the field of electrical engineering. His Ph.D. dissertation is entitled "Nonperiodic forced counter overflow of specific oscillations in digital and analog filters".
