Henry Kravis: Partners
built 257 days ago
The son of Bessie (Roberts) and Raymond Kravis, a successful Tulsa oil engineer who had been a business partner of Joseph P. Kennedy, Henry began his education at the Eaglebrook School followed by high school at The Loomis Chaffee School. He then majored in economics at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California and graduated in 1967 before going on to Columbia University where he received an MBA degree in 1969. [2]
The Knowledge Map ... has the ability to display Kravis’ connections to non-corporate entities, including organizations, educational institutions, and even key family members. Kravis has membership ties to the Council on Foreign Relations and the New York City Partnership, and attended Claremont McKenna College and later Columbia University. Also clearly shown is Kravis’ connection to KKR Co-Founder George R Robert, as the two are first-cousins.

The New York Times [registration required] reports that KKR partner, Henry Kravis, is belatedly and ineffectively entering the battle to keep Congress from raising his taxes. At issue is the 15% capital gains rate which private equity firms pay on the 20% of the profits their funds generate, known as carried interest. Congress wants to tax this 20% as ordinary income -- meaning Kravis and his pals would pay a 35% tax.
Any wounds in the relationship between Kravis and Robinson have evidently been healed. Among other connections, the two now sit on the board of nonprofit Partnership for New York City (along with just about everyone else who’s anyone in the New York financial world it seems, including Goldman Sachs Group chief Lloyd Blankfein and Kravis archrival Steve Schwarzman of Blackstone Group).

Kravis paused. ``Just don't do anything to screw it up,'' he added. The partners laughed. As the deals -- and potential dangers -- of the private equity boom keep multiplying, Kravis might want to heed his own advice.

[D]uring the years he was cooperating with the feds to convict many of his partners in crime, he lived like a king in Southampton, a few houses from Henry Kravis, and entertained lavishly at home while wearing an ankle monitor. Now he's even more comfortable in Southern California, although he doesn't see it that way.
