Henry Ford did much the same thing with aviation. Like the early automobiles, the early airplanes found little public acceptance. It was Henry Ford who pioneered the successful adaptation of the basic concept of the airplane and brought aviation and its advantages within the reach of the average citizen. It was his efforts in developing suitable aircraft to serve the public, then building public confidence in their reliability, safety and necessity that put the nation on wings.

The Henry Ford's clothing collection is recognized by the National Endowment for the Humanities as one of national significance. It contains over 10,000 items, ranges in date from 1750 to the present day, and includes ordinary folks -- clothing as well as expensive, custom-made, couture dress. For further information on a specific piece or other items in the collection, please contact the Benson Ford Research Center at The Henry Ford.
A leading spokesman for noninvolvement was the country schoolhouse graduate Henry Ford. His empire was built upon the internal combustion engine. His low-priced Model T had changed the nation. Standardization allowed for moving assembly lines and mass production. The Ford manufacturing techniques were adapted by weapons industries in Germany and Japan.
