built 613 days ago
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Jane Fonda, the daughter of legendary actor Henry and sister to "Easy Ridin'" Peter, made her Broadway and Hollywood debuts in 1960 and was immediately recognized as a potential star. The folks at Encore believe she has gone beyond her potential, and will celebrate the Academy Award(R)-winning actress on her 63rd birthday with six of her films on Thursday, December 21st beginning at 12:35 p.m. (ET/PT). 12:35 p.m. "Any Wednesday" (1966) - A bedroom farce about a New York executive using his mistress' apartment (Fonda) for business deductions. Co-starring Jason Robards and Dean Jones. 2:30 p.m. "California Suite" (1978) - Four Neil Simon skits set at the Beverly Hills Hotel (and adapted from his Broadway hit). Co-starring Alan Alda, Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Walter Matthau, Richard Pryor, and Bill Cosby.
Fonda finished the 1970s in a number of disaster films. The first of these was the 1977 Italian killer octopus thriller Tentacoli (Tentacles) and the mediocre Rollercoaster, in which Fonda appeared with Richard Widmark and a young Helen Hunt. He performed once again with Widmark, Olivia de Havilland, Fred MacMurray, and José Ferrer in the killer bee action film The Swarm. He ... acted in the global disaster film Meteor, with Sean Connery, Natalie Wood and Karl Malden, and then the Canadian production City on Fire, which also featured Shelley Winters and Ava Gardner. Fonda had a small role with his son, Peter, in 1979's Wanda Nevada, with Brooke Shields.
In 1935, Fonda was cast in the leading role in the screen adaptation of The Farmer Takes a Wife, reprising the role from his Broadway production. The film was well received by critics, and Fonda began to make epic-type films immediately. The first was The Trail of the Lonesome Pine in 1936, with that he became recognized as a movie star. In the same year, he married his second wife, Frances Seymour Brokaw. They produced two children, Jane and Peter, both of whom became actors.

Fonda died at his Los Angeles home on August 12, 1982, at the age of 77 from heart disease. Fonda's wife Shirlee, daughter Jane and son Peter were at his side when he died.[25] He ... suffered from prostate cancer, but this did not directly cause his death and was only mentioned as a concurrent ailment on his death certificate.
Peter wrote about his fathers demise, "James Garner and his wife Lois stopped by the Fonda family’s estate to pay their respects. While Lois stayed with Shirlee, Garner wandered into the gatehouse to visit Peter and both men lit up a joint. They were inhaling when suddenly Jane walked in, clearly upset. She had discovered that Shirlee was keeping Henry’s ashes under her bed. All three were horrified.
