Henry Fok: Hong Kong
built 264 days ago
It really wasn’t Henry Fok’s fault that he dropped out of high school - Japan invaded his country of Hong Kong. Fok got his break by smuggling firearms into China during the Korean War. He later helped finance Stanley Ho (another dropout!) to get the monopoly of Macau’s gambling license. Politically very connected, Fok was rumored to be the behind-the-scenes king maker in Hong Kong politics. Fok’s worth $3.7 billion, not at all shabby for a high school dropout.

Henry Fok helped Tung Chee Hwa out of a near-bankruptcy of his family's Orient Overseas Container Line in the 1980s. Because of this relationship, it was often said while Tung was the Chief Executive of Hong Kong that Fok 'intervened/advised' if times, or rather Beijing, called for it.
