The Henna Penna is a pen filled with henna extract that is used to make natural tattoos and skin decorations. Henna Penna is quick and easy to use. The color dries immediately and stays on your skin for approximately seven days. [Allow 1-3 hours for it to completely set] The tattoos can be made darker and refreshed simply by reapplying.

Using the term ‘tattoo’ when referring to henna body art is incorrect, he says. Tattoo inks are made and tested for use in the skin and, by definition, tattooing places a pigmented substance into the dermal layer of the skin. Henna art is a topical application of a pigmented substance that is meant to stain the skin, therefore ‘henna staining’ would be a more appropriate description of this art form.

Henna tattooing is traditionally an Indian body decoration that is said to have started some 5,000 years ago. True henna is made up of natural leaves and dyes that are turned into a paste and piped onto the skin.

Often used on special occasions, henna tattoos last between one and four weeks, and were traditionally used on the hands and feet. In the US, true henna has not been approved by the FDA for body art purposes... it is approved for use on hair. With a history of over 5000 years, there have been no tests which ever suggested henna poses a danger. Traditional henna designs are applied to the skin and left on for several hours to over night. While some otherwise healthy people have a mild allergic reaction to henna, this is not permanent or life-threatening (barring any pre-existing skin conditions), they should just avoid henna in the future.

The henna tattoo will remain until all the stained layers of skin naturally exfoliate. Exfoliation will eventually cause the stain to disappear. It will last anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks depending on your body temperature level, where the henna is applied, the dryer the spot the deeper the stain and how often you wash the hennaed area.

PPD is often added to henna to make the tattoo darker. In some people, it seems henna containing PPD can cause contact dermatitis, in which the skin becomes swollen, red and itchy.
