Visually, Hellsing seems to have been inspired by equal parts Trigun and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Arucard doesn't quite have D's icy cool, but he does have his over-the-top sense of baroque style: His clothes look like they were ripped off a 19th-century pimp with a hat-brim fetish. Studio GONZO, the flashmeisters behind visual playgrounds like Gatekeepers and Blue Submarine No. 6, are as emphatically expressive as ever; they particularly went to town in the process of making Arucard as visually unique and intimidatingly evil as possible. With his wild hair, multitudinous red eyes, wide, fangy smirk and horrific crawling-shadow powers, he's less an anti-hero than a momentarily contained supervillain.

Hellsing is a stylish, classy, and action-packed vampire thriller. Don't be tempted to pass up the series because of it's short length, or over worked subject. Even though the subject has been covered many times both in anime and live action movies, Hellsing presents an new and refreshing look at the subject.

A bloody blend of vampires, gunplay and Gothic England (that's Gothic as in Slimelight, not Byron), Hellsing was enthusiastically received by viewers in Japan, US and Australia, and has taken the UK by storm. Total DVD described it as "far superior to the overrated Vampire Hunter D", while SciFi Channel's Jonathan Clements praised the animation, calling it "a vampire anime with a refreshingly European look", benefiting from "a script that recalls some of the better horror of recent years". Based on creator Kouta Hirano's popular manga of the same name, the series was produced by GONZO Digimation (Blue Sub No. 6, Full Metal Panic!).

The Hellsing institute fights vampires and has been doing so for about one hundred years. However, their Catholic counterpart Iscariot objects to their use of vampires to fight vampires, and does everything they can to stop Hellsing. Exhilarating and intense, filled with action and suspense, Hellsing is an excellent anime.

Alucard, Seras, and the Hellsing special forces soldiers must fight the true vampires, other monsters, Iscariot 13 and Anderson, and the insta-vampires while trying to find out who is secretly behind creating these artificial monsters. And Alucard knows that in order for whoever is doing this to make artificial vampires with computer chip implants, they must be using another ancient and centuries-old vampire like himself
