Helium (Element): Order
built 264 days ago
Helium II will "creep" along surfaces in order to find its own level - after a short while, the levels in the two containers will equalize. The Rollin film ... covers the interior of the larger container; if it were not sealed, the helium II would creep out and escape.
Helium was discovered in 1868 by a French astronomer by observation of the sun's spectrum. Its name is derived from the Greek helios, meaning the sun. It was thought at the time to be a metal, hence its name-ending -ium. It ought to be called helion in order to be consistent with the other noble gases.
Helium level detectors have been added to all of the transport dewars. Please read the information and instructions for using them. They MUST be plugged in to the "Cryonet" in order to keeep their batteries charged. If you will have one in the lab for more than a day you should use the supplied HLD charger available in CLB 308.
