Image of Clarke Glacier The main prerequisites for heliskiing are a little experence in powder, intermediate skiing ability, and a reasonable level of fitness. Skiers are grouped with others of similar ability, flown to suitable slopes, and guided by trained professionals. The heli-ski areas are monitored for avalanche risk and the guides are well trained in safety and first aid procedures. The feeling of skiing virgin slopes among the majestic peaks of the New Zealand Alps is unsurpassed by anything else skiing in New Zealand has to offer.
