- Marlboro Team Penske drivers Sam Hornish Jr. and Helio Castroneves (both Marlboro Toyota) were the highest-qualifying Toyotas at the Milwaukee Mile and will start fourth and fifth at Sunday’s Menards A.J. Foyt Indy 225.
Helio Castroneves was leading with less than 25 laps to go when his rear wing collapsed, throwing him into the wall. Then team mate Sam Hornish slowed as his wing bent out of position, though he was […]
Helio Castroneves has his third straight pole at Watkins Glen International. Now, if he can only escape his bad luck on race day. In a near repeat of qualifying here two years ago, Castroneves bested Scott Dixon on Saturday, covering the 3.4-mile, 11-turn road circuit at 136.021 mph (1 minute, 29.1919 seconds) during the Firestone Fast Six, a 10-minute showdown among the half-dozen fastest drivers in single-lap qualifying.
Helio Castroneves strayed from his typical, hard-driving style and, instead, chose the conservative route to reach victory lane in the 2000 Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix of Detroit. Castroneves steered away from trouble, stretched his fuel mileage, and then defeated Italy's Max Papis by 4.415 seconds. The seventh different winner in seven CART FedEx races this season, Castroneves took the lead when pole-sitter Juan Pablo Montoya exited the event with a broken driveshaft on lap 62 of the 84-lap race. The Brazilian then steadily pulled away on the 2.3-mile, 14-turn Belle Isle road course. Rookie Oriol Servia of Spain finished third, just ahead of last year's race winner, Scotsman Dario Franchitti. Prior to the victory, the 25-year-old Castroneves' best finish in three seasons on the CART circuit had been three seconds.

Helio Castroneves won for Penske again in 2002, but the win was controversial. Paul Tracy claimed to have passed Castroneves on lap 199 prior to a yellow light, and Tracy's owner Barry Green appealed. Castroneves' win was upheld first by the IRL and then by Tony George, serving as an official arbitrator. George decided July 3 that the placement of cars after a caution is a judgement call of the officials and therefore not subject to appeal, thereby ending Green's hopes for a victory.
