Helio Castroneves of Brazil leads Paul Tracy of Canada during the Indianapolis 500 shortly before the final yellow flag came out. Tracy passed Castroneves on the next-to-last lap but race officials said the yellow flag had come out seconds earlier after Buddy Lazier and rookie Laurent Redon crashed. Castroneves won the race under yellow.

- With his seventh-place finish, Helio Castroneves dropped to fourth-place in the points race. Scott Dixon (Target Toyota) placed 12th and fell from fifth to sixth. Sam Hornish Jr.’s eighth now places him in eight-place overall and Darren Manning’s 11th-place finish puts him in ninth-place in the championship hunt.
