Helio Castroneves: Belle Isle
built 396 days ago
Helio Castroneves and Team Penske brought out their No. 3 machine yesterday for a compatibility test on the new and (hopefully) improved Raceway at Belle Isle in preparation for the Detroit Grand Prix on Sept. 2. Castroneves, a two-time Detroit GP winner (2000, 2001) in his CART days, was unable to fully attack the 2.125-mile street course due to “a lack of installed barriers and other standard safety measures,” according to Autoweek’s Mac Morrison.

Helio Castroneves won his first major open-wheel victory on the Belle Isle street course in 2000 and repeated the following year, making him the only multiple winner at the Detroit layout. "I have such great memories of that place," Castroneves says.
