The search areas were in the mountains and often required helicopter transport to a prepared landing zone which would be placed as close to the site as possible. More often than not, "we were required to hike our gear up the mountain or mountains to get to our site.

It would now be hard to imagine doing without civil helicopters for transport of materials and passenger flights. The Swiss Alpine valleys and mountains are popular holiday destinations, famous throughout the world. But this diversity of landscape is not without its problems. Valleys and alps need to be accessible to make possible care and cultivation, but not everywhere is suitable for building roads.

The increasing use of helicopters for cargo transport has many reasons. One is the increasing building of houses and cabins in areas that are difficult accessible for traditional transport with trucks or boats like; in the mountains and on some rugged islands.
