Helena Bonham Carter: Roles
built 188 days ago
[D]espite minor mishaps during shooting, and despite how much she relished playing Mrs. Lovett, Helena Bonham Carter is absorbed and fully ecstatic with her role as a mother. The actress enthusiastically described motherhood as "the ultimate creativity," and said she'd love to do it again and again. "I'd really like six of them!" Does Bonham Carter feel that having her children in her late thirties and onward makes them all the more precious? "Yes," she says. "Because you really want them by then, don't you?
Breaking free from her usual fare, Bonham Carter delivered a fine portrayal of a drug addict engaged to Don Johnson's detective on NBC's "Miami Vice" (1984-89). The actress later won applause as a working-class stripper in the British TV-movie "Dancing Queen" (1993) and was superb as Marina Oswald in the NBC telefilm "Fatal Deception: Mrs. Lee Harvey Oswald" (1993). As Woody Allen's unhappy spouse contemplating an affair in "Might Aphrodite" (1995), Bonham Carter seemed to eerily channel Mia Farrow, especially in her vocal cadences. The role of the foul-mouthed, married coal miner's daughter in the Canadian-made "Margaret's Museum" (1995) earned her fine notices, as well as a Genie Award. But few bothered to show up in theaters.
After playing Emma Thompson's sister in HOWARDS END (1992), Carter went on to play the love interest of Thompson's husband, Kenneth Branagh, in Frankenstein. It is rumored that Carter was one of the main reasons for the subsequent Branagh/Thompson divorce. The next woman to play Thompson's sister on film (Kate Winslet in SENSE AND SENSIBILITY) ... followed that role by playing Branagh's love interest (in Hamlet).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "X-Files" executive producer Chris Carter has a short list of candidates to serve as Agent Scully's partner in the upcoming eighth season. This past Friday, Bruce Campbell, Lou Diamond Phillips, Hart Bochner, and Robert Patrick tested with Fox to fill the role opposite series star Gillian Anderson.
