Helen Keller was a member of the socialist party and actively campaigned and wrote in support of the working classes from 1909 to 1921. She favored revolutionary socialism, as opposed to the reformist socialism later adopted by the socialist party.
Helen Keller Helen Keller died in 1968, but her legacy continued to live and grow. Ten years after her death, the Lions heard her call once more, this time for those who couldn't hear:
At the age of 16 Helen attended a school with children who could see and hear and took classes in German, English and French. When she left school she went to Radcliffe University for women.
In 1894 Helen and Anne met John D Wright and Dr Thomas Humason who were planning to set up a school to teach speech to the deaf in New York City. Helen and Anne were very excited by this and the assurances of the two men that Helen’s speech could be improved excited them further. Helen ... agreed to attend the Wright-Humason School for the Deaf.

From that point on, Helen learned very rapidly. It wasn't long before Helen was learning to read, first with raised letters and then with braille. Then she learned to use a regular typewriter and one with braille.
