Helen: Life
built 197 days ago
Helen & Douglas House is a registered charity providing respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions, as well as support and friendship for the whole family. The two hospice houses are bright, vibrant and positive places, where the emphasis is on living life to the full, even when that life may be short.

The final fate of Helen is cloudy. Some say that she lived out the rest of her life in Sparta. Others say that she was exiled by her bastard stepsons (Bell, 227). Others say that she was captured by Orestes and Pylades, who meant to kill her, but at the last moment she disappeared into the sky, where she became the guardian of sailors (Tripp, 265). Some even say that after her death, Helen went to the White Isle to marry Achilles.

Helen fought a courageous and exhausting battle with lung cancer before ... being diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite it all, she responded to treatments and was winning the battle against both cancers. A seemingly routine surgery to correct damage to her esophagus which had been damaged from the radiation treatments, would begin her downward spiral. Complications from this surgery would cause her to contract pneumonia, which ultimately took her life on October 25, 2006.
