Image:HedyLamarr.jpg Hedy Lamarr (November 9, 1913 - January 19, 2000) was an actress and communications innovator. She was known as The Most Beautiful Woman In Films and ... as the inventor of the first form of spread spectrum.

Hedy Lamarr is quite simply an icon. She was at that time at her peak and was known as the most beautiful woman in the world. And based on that film, she was indeed heartbreakingly beautiful. If the god of the Old Testament had wanted any steamy seductress to test Samson’s steely will, then Hedy Lamarr would have been her. Although everything about the film now appears rather dated, the theme is timeless. It is an emotively classic tale of love, deceit, bitter revenge and lasting remorse.

in Boom Town (1940) In 2003, the Boeing corporation ran a series of recruitment ads featuring Hedy Lamarr as a woman of science. No reference to her film career was made in the ads. In 2005, the first Inventor's Day in German-speaking countries was held in her honor on November 9, on what would have been her 92nd birthday.
The early '40s were Lamarr's years of greatest popularity. She played a career woman (opposite Robert Young) in ``H.M. Pulham, Esq.'' (1941), was in the ensemble of ``Ziegfeld Girl'' (1941) and gave her most flashy, campy performance in ``White Cargo'' (1942), as a fiery tropical temptress.
