Until this year, these districts offered health insurance benefits comparable to TRS ActiveCare but with lower premium rates. For the first time, their average premiums for employee-only and employee-plus-children categories are higher than premiums for ActiveCare 2 (the option most employees select). ActiveCare 2 premium rates have held steady since 2003–04, as have the rates for other ActiveCare plans.

In Vermont, small businesses having one to 50 employees cannot be denied small group health insurance and the policies are required to be common health plans. Your insurance cannot be cancelled because of illness in your employee group. Vermont allows self-employed individuals to buy small group insurance. For information on the regulations governing professional or business associations, you may contact the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration.
[I]ndividual health insurance is not guaranteed issue. Each employee must apply for the insurance coverage by providing information about his or her health history. The insurer then evaluates this information and elects whether or not to offer the employee coverage. Because of this, the per-person cost of individual health insurance is usually lower than that of group insurance, particularly for employees who are younger or who have maintained good health.

The Town provides health insurance for each eligible employee. The premiums are paid 100% by the Town. Dependent coverage is available and is paid for by the employee. Contact the Human Resources Director for current rates.
Most people groan at the thought of purchasing an individual health insurance plan - and for good reason. Individual health insurance plans are usually more expensive than the ideal health care coverage - employer-sponsored group health insurance plans. However, in New York, you can purchase an affordable individual health insurance plan for a couple of reasons.
A group health insurance policy is issued to a company, and employees of that company receive benefits according to the terms of the policy. Group health insurance is generally “guaranteed issue,” meaning that all individuals who meet the eligibility requirements determined by the company qualify to receive coverage, regardless of their individual health conditions.
