Methysergide is the only drug approved for the treatment of cluster headache (it is no longer marketed in the US). It is not used very often because of the possible development of retroperitoneal fibrosis or other fibrotic complications. Methysergide should not be used for longer than 4 to 6 months without giving the patient a 4-to-6-week drug holiday. Once the patient is free of attacks for a few weeks, prophylactic drugs should be tapered and discontinued.
Usually a doctor can determine the cause of a headache from the patient's medical history and a physical examination. However, occasionally blood tests may be needed to detect an underlying illness. Only rarely are chronic headaches caused by brain tumors, brain injuries, or lack of oxygen to the brain. If the doctor suspects a tumor, stroke, or other problem with the brain, computed tomography (CT) scanning or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be ordered to provide images of the brain.

The researchers wanted to see if Atacand would reduce the number of days with a headache. In patients taking Atacand, about a 25% reduction in days with headaches as well as an almost 30% reduction in days with migraines was found compared with patients taking dummy pills. The researchers ... found that about 40% of responders to Atacand reported a reduction in the hours that they suffered the migraine.
The use of 100% oxygen by mask at a flow rate of 8 to 10 L/min for up to 10 minutes will abort an acute cluster headache in 50% to 60% of patients. Ergotamine tartrate, DHE, and any of the triptans usually are very effective, but are inappropriate in patients who suffer several attacks a day. Fortunately, cluster headache patients do not appear to develop rebound headaches from frequent use of ergotamine tartrate or the triptans, as do migraine sufferers.
The most commonly reported adverse events with Cialis are headache, upset stomach, nasal congestion, backache, muscle ache, dizziness and flushing. The adverse events reported with Cialis were transient and generally mild or moderate. As with other PDE5 inhibitors, the use of Cialis is contraindicated in patients who are taking nitrates or for those who have cardiac disease and for whom sexual activity is not advisable.
