Hayao Miyazaki: Princess Nausicaa
built 257 days ago
Miyazaki and French writer and illustrator Jean Giraud (aka Moebius) have influenced each other and have become friends as a result of their mutual admiration. Monnaie de Paris held an exhibition of their work titled Miyazaki et Moebius: Deux Artistes Dont Les Dessins Prennent Vie (Two Artists’s Drawings Taking on a Life of Their Own) from December 2004 to April 2005. Both artists attended the opening of the exhibition.[20][21] Also Moebius has named his daughter Nausicaa after Miyazaki's heroine.

In the past, Miyazaki has said he didn't intend to seek a global market and just wanted to please Japanese children. This response was prompted by his unhappiness with the way his 1984 feature ``Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind'' was edited for worldwide distribution.

Nausicaa.net has recently reported that the elder Miyazaki has plans to direct his next film and that he has made up his mind about the "mood" of the film. No specific details have been released yet.

Following the huge critical and commercial success of Princess Mononoke, Hayao stunned the film community by announcing his retirement. Fortunately for his fans, Hayao didn’t stay away for too long and emerged in 2001 with what is arguably his most accomplished achievement to date: Spirited Away.

Every family should have "Kiki's Delivery" service in their library, although the adults may find themselves returning to it as much as the children; and it's a great introduction to Miyazaki. Make sure you ... watch "Castle in the Sky," "Spirited Away," and "Princess Mononoke" (the last one isn't really for kids, however).
