The Republic of Hawaii was the formal name of Hawaii from 1894 to 1898 when it was run as a republic. The republic period occurred between the administration of the Provisional Government of Hawaii which ended on July 4, 1894 and the adoption of the Newlands Resolution in Congress in which the Republic was annexed to the United States and became the Territory of Hawaii on July 7, 1898.

Political Science 673: The Future of Political Systems (pdf), is a graduate-level course taught only at the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus. The objective of the course is to have students to design new political systems. The course is separated into three parts: 1) a review of some of the basic ideas about political futures studies and the design of political systems, 2) an analysis of six of the many complaints levied against all existing government, and 3) an application of political design of the student’s choosing.

Electric Boat delivered Hawaii to the Navy in December 2006. It is the third ship of the Virginia Class and the second to be delivered by Electric Boat. Hawaii was commissioned May 5, 2007. Electric Boat and its construction teammate, Northrop Grumman Newport News, have received contracts to produce a total of 10 Virginia-Class submarines.
