Harry Potter is directed by Chris Columbus, who is a man experienced with both adult-like children over-reacting (Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone) and child-like adults overacting (Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire). In deference to its overblown budget, Columbus uses John Williams's music like a big, bloated yellow-highlighter to underscore, well actually over-score, each emotional nuance until it is pummeled into the audience with the subtlety of a CBS sitcom. When it comes to original music in Hollywood, either you get the pseudo-hip songs of puppy-dog-cute friendship played with the same three chords on a piano by Randy Newman or you get the overpowering bombast of the string sections from three regional symphony orchestras scored by John Williams. There is no middle ground. And there are, apparently, no other composers working in the film industry. So it is little wonder why most movies simply tack on tunes by whomever happens to be popular during post-production without regard to the actual story.

The USA versions name was changed from Harry Potter and the "Philosopher's stone" to " Sorcerer's Stone ", which was the publisher's idea. They certainly were unafraid of any controversy knowing that it would help sell. It has been sold to publishers in eight countries, and has netted a $100,000 advance from Scholastic Books for the American edition. Judy Corman, spokeswoman for U.S. publisher Scholastic Division reports more than 5 million hard copies of the books have been sold in the United States and millions more are in paperback. ( 7 + million altogether which adds up to a whole lot of kids reading) It will be published shortly in Brazil, Holland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Japan (35 languages in all).

At this, Harry vowed to take revenge. Through his efforts to avenge his parents and Pettigrew, Harry discovered the truth: Black was innocent, and Pettigrew, an unregistered Animagus hiding as Ron Weasley's pet rat Scabbers, had faked his own death and framed Black for the crimes. Through disasterous events, Pettigrew escaped, but Harry managed to prevent Sirius from being recaptured by fighting off a hoard of Dementors with a Patronus Charm. Sirius was forced back into hiding, but he was saved.
Some minor differences of the on-screen description of Harry and the novels' version include small things like his hair and eyes. In the novels, Harry's hair is described as being jet-black and very untidy. In the first 2 films, while his hair is black, it hangs down quite tidily and cleanly. The untidiness is... captured in the 3rd and 4th films. In the third film, his hair is again black but also quite unkempt and untidy, sticking up in several places. In the fourth film, Harry's hair has grown considerably longer, appearing even more untidy than in the previous film.
While in the Forest of Dean, Harry was led to the Sword of Godric Gryffindor by the light of a spectral doe which turned out to be the Patronus of Severus Snape. The sword had the capability to destroy the Horcrux which no other object was able to accomplish. It was during the struggle with the sword and locket that he and Ron were reunited.
In 1995, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was completed and the manuscript was sent off to prospective agents. The second agent she tried, Christopher Little, offered to represent her and sent the manuscript to Bloomsbury. After eight other publishers had rejected Philosopher's Stone, Bloomsbury offered Rowling a £3,000 advance for its publication.[10]
