   After directing the $318 million-grossing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Columbus received thousands of letters thanking him for staying true to J.K. Rowling's magical best-seller. Critics... complained that the film held few surprises. "We got a lot of heat for being so faithful," Columbus says. "But you can't do it any better than it's written on the page." Potter-heads should be equally pleased by his sequel.

   Harry Potter is not the first character -- real or fictional -- who learned how to excite the masses through evocative imagery and clever words. China's revered leader Mao Zedong knew well the power of "emotion work." That's why he so effectively won the hearts of the people. He knew how to stir "bitterness" against landowners, hatred toward Christians,love for communism, and a sacrificial spirit that would give its all to his totalitarian reign. By identifying and isolating the key "enemy" as the most threatening evil, the new evils no longer seem so bad.
5. Harry -- Harry Potter
   Becoming the new "Harry Potter" director is something like becoming the next James Bond. The new talent is scrutinized by die-hard fans brutally; their career assessed and judge, their talents called out, and there's of course the inevitable comparison to their successor. And each of the directors (like the Bonds) have always brought something new to the film adaptations of quite possibly the most popular book saga of all time. Christopher Columbus (hack though he was) first brought the wonderful and stellar cast together, and started the series the way it should be started; as an almost wondrous introduction and view of Harry's magical world. Alfonso Cuaron transformed the liter-minded series into a dark, cinematic wonderland; more like a film than a reading, and he imbued it with his own technical prowess and paved the way for coming directors to add their own ideas to Rowling's mixing bowl. Mike Newell of the fourth film gave it a very British feel; a much sharper sense of humor and an even more adult-oriented (and action film) mindset (note the PG-13 rating).
6. Harry Potter Soundtrack -- Releases
   This Harry Potter soundtrack is the most interesting and diverse of the soundtracks released through movie 5. From the beginning of Hedwig's theme, to the interesting Knight Bus, to the climactic Buckbeak theme, the tracks transport you to the world of Harry Potter better than any of the other four movie soundtracks do. And if that isn't enough, the end credits give you a reprise of the whole thing again, only in reverse order.
7. Harry Potter Wallpaper -- Fire
   Two new behind-the-scenes pictures during the production of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" have popped up. One of them portrays Mike Newell directing Daniel Radcliffe in the graveyard. 9. The Prisoner -- Harry Potter
   According to Nielsen VideoScan, all three Harry Potter DVDs/videos - Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, and Prisoner of Azkaban - debuted at #1 and remained the #1 family film for the first 3 weeks of each release. "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" (Warner Home Video, released 11/23/04) was the #1 selling family video, and #4 video regardless of category, in all of 2004. "Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets" (Warner Home Video, released 4/11/03) was the #4 selling video in 2003 and the #3 family video in 2003. "Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone" (Warner Home Video, released 5/28/02) was the #3 selling video in 2002 and was the #2 family video in 2002.
10. Harry Potter Soundtrack -- Goblet
    The biggest selling Harry Potter soundtrack by far was the first: "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Since its release in October of 2001, this Potter soundtrack has sold 619,000 copies in the U.S. Soundtrack sales for the additional Harry Potter movies declined with each release. "The Chamber of Secrets," based off the second movie in the series, has sold roughly 210,000 copies since its release in November 2002. The other two soundtracks; "Prisoner of Azkaban" and "The Goblet of Fire," have respectively sold 180,000 and 135,000 copies in the U.S.
