Harry Potter: Books

Harry Potter is coincidentally given the official title of a seeker in the very first book. And what is a seeker going to find if he starts to research the subject of witchcraft and sorcery after reading these kinds of books and having the seeds of desire implanted in them as a result of reading these kind of books? Hundreds and hundreds of books on the subject of witchcraft - all with specific titles on how to actually become a witch, how to form out a coven, how to actually cast spells, etc.

The second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, begins its tale once again in the Muggle world, at the Dursley’s and right around Harry’s birthday, strange things begin to happen. This time a strange creature named Dobby, who is a house elf, visits Harry in the middle of the night. Dobby, like all house elves, is a little creature with “large, bat-like ears and bulging green eyes the size of tennis balls… which are bound to serve one house and one family forever, unless given their freedom” (Rowling, 12-14). At school this year, a new evil is on the loose and once again Harry and his friends must face a new challenge and conquer personal confrontations including friendship breakdown, standing up to bullies, and being ostracized on account of bitter gossip. Once again the themes discussed in a hypothetical world lend to the bond formed between the reader and the stories.

It’s no secret that the Harry Potter franchise is popular among youth. REALLY popular. The six books published to date (almost seven!) have together sold more than 325 million copies and have been translated into more than 63 languages. Like the Simpsons, its cleverness has attracted fans from all generations and has entrenched it in popular culture the world over. The mythology of the young Harry and his adventures at Hogwarts have enchanted readers from Tulsa to Taipei.
The popularity of the Harry Potter series has translated into substantial financial success for Rowling, her publishers, and other Harry Potter related license holders. The books have sold over 325 million copies worldwide and have ... given rise to the popular film adaptations produced by Warner Bros., all of which have been successful in their own right with the first, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, ranking number four on the inflation-unadjusted list of all-time highest grossing films and the other four Harry Potter films each ranking in the top 20.[49] The films have in turn spawned five video games and have in conjunction with them led to the licensing of over 400 additional Harry Potter products (including an iPod) that have, as of July 2005, made the Harry Potter brand worth an estimated 4 billion US dollars and J.K. Rowling a US dollar billionaire,[50] making her, by some reports, richer than Queen Elizabeth II.[51][52]

Harry Potter and his world of wizards, witches and warlocks has made Rowling a rich woman. The author has sold 350 million books and counting, been translated into 65 languages and had her work made into highly successful movies. But this time, Rowling told the BBC, the money will go to a charity in Europe close to her heart.
