In 1894 Ehrich Weiss (Later Known As Harry Houdini the great Magician of all time) became influenced by a French Magician that was said to be one of the best French Magicians of his time. The French Magicians name was Jean Eugene Robert-Houdini. In the start Harry Houdini did mostly card tricks for his audiences. Later he did make an Elephant and its trainer disappear or vanish on stage. It was said there was a pool under the stage. That gives pool tricks a new meaning :) Soon after he began his escape acts for his magic tricks on stage.

Harry Houdini is one of the greatest magicians of all time. Harry is said to have been born on March 24, 1874 in Hungary, but he claimed to have been born on April 6, 1874 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Harry's birth name was Erich Weiss. After living in Hungary, Harry's family moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where Harry's father became a rabbi. There are many different stories of Harry's young life but no one is quite sure of the correct one.

Throughout his life, Harry Houdini claimed that he was born April 6, 1874 in Appleton, Wisconsin. In fact, he was born with the name Ehrich Weisz on March 24, 1874, in Budapest, Hungary. His father was Mayer Samuel Weisz, a religious teacher, whose first wife had died in childbirth. Ehrich was a child of his second wife, Cecilia Steiner. How many children the couple had is unclear, although six of their children survived to adulthood. Hoping for a better life for his family, Mayer emigrated to America and changed the spelling of his last name to Weiss.

Harry Houdini was born into a Jewish family in Budapest, Hungary. His given name is found spelled differently in different sources, and his birth date is uncertain. However, years after his death, a copy of his birth certificate was found and published in The Houdini Birth Research Committee's Report (1972). According to that original source, he was born on March 24, 1874 as Erich Weisz. Houdini himself spelled his name Ehrich Weiss, as can be seen from this letter to his mother. But his family name is ethnic-German, would be "White" in English, and can be written Weiß.

Harry Houdini was born March 24, 1874 as Ehrich Weiss. He was a Hungarian Emigrant that emigrated to America with his family. Harry Houdini had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. After his 12th birthday Houdini ran away from home and sent his family a post card saying that he was going to Galveston Texas and would see them in a year. Strange facts are that he hopped the wrong railcar and ended up in Kansas City (it is said he never did make it to Texas). Budapest Hungary was his prior home so to emigrate to America for his family was a big step.
