Harry really didn't have any educational backround. He ran away a day after his twelfth birthday. He was restless to see the world. He sent his family a postcard saying, "I'm heading for Galveston, Texas. Be back in a year." When he hopped on the railcar he got on the wrong car and went to Kansas City.

The History Museum gathers, interprets, and disseminates information related to the life and career of Harry Houdini who claimed Appleton, Wisconsin as his home-town. The A.K.A. Houdini exhibit lets you experience some of Harry Houdini's tricks of the trade through hands-on activities. It is great fun for the whole family!

While touring in the United States, Houdini met Joe Keaton and his family vaudeville act. It's said that after Joe's young son fell down a flight of stairs unscathed, Houdini remarked, "Your kid is quite the buster" (buster being a stage name for a fall) and gave a name to comedy legend Buster Keaton (the kid).

During his early February performances , The Donnelly family immediately preceded Houdini. They were a dance troupe. Their little daughter Kitty, was the highlight of their turn. After the orchestra had escorted them off the stage it was time for the headliner of the night.

Copperflield, who helped pay for a recent restoration of Houdinl's vandalized grave in Machpelah Cemetery, spent about a half-hour in the frigid cold at the grave plot of Houdini's family. Dressed in blue jeans and a long winter coat, he walked slowly from gravestone to gravestone and squatted beside Houdini's grave.
