Perhaps the researchers turned up the fact that Harry Houdini's real name was Erich Weiss. Other than that, perhaps JK Rowling, who has scads of money and bloodthirsty barristers at her command, might take exception to another 'Harry' out there.

The 2002 34-cent Harry Houdini stamp Houdini's name was Ehrich Weiss until he changed it in the early 1890s as a tribute to the famous French illusionist, Jean-Eugene Robert-Houdin. He began performing escape tricks on vaudeville stages in the spring of 1899, and by the following spring he had become a star known as the King of Handcuffs. Houdini astonished audiences with his daring escapes, not only from handcuffs but from straitjackets, ropes, chains, jail cells, and trunks submerged in water.

Houdini, born Erich Weiss, was born in Wisconsin in 1874. As a teenager, he spent his time entertaining in the circus, performing on the trapeze and doing conjuring tricks. As his fame began to spread, he changed his name to Harry Houdini.

Weiss (1870-1927); Gottfried William Weiss (1872-1925); Theodore Weiss (Dash) (1876-1945); [2] Leopold D. Weiss (1879-1962); and Gladys Carrie Weiss (1882-?).
