Harold Lloyd: Suzanne Lloyd
built 289 days ago
With a big year ahead, Harold Lloyd's star is clearly on the rise once again. His appeal is universal: "he helps kids, he's kind to dogs," Suzanne Lloyd says, "he's always very kind but ... very resourceful." Lloyd's films are always a hit with children, as well, so families will doubtless want to keep a sharp lookout for his films.

In 2002 Suzanne Lloyd donated nearly 3,000 original still photographs and negatives and approximately 85 scrapbooks documenting Lloyd’s personal life and film career to the Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library. The exhibition is curated from the collection and celebrates its donation.

A shrewd businessman in real life, Lloyd rarely took directorial credit for his films, though he was their chief "creator." Over the years, he retained their rights and kept his prints in good condition, aided by his granddaughter Suzanne, whom he raised. When Lloyd died, Suzanne vowed to keep her grandfather's name in lights.

Funny how, years after Girl Shy, time revealed a libidinous streak in Lloyd. Last year, Suzanne Lloyd published the secret stash of 3-D cheesecake photos the great comedy star took in the 1950s; his models included Tura Santana and Bettie Page. Rounded 3-D glasses are available with every copy.
