SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- CeBIT'99 will see the launch of the world's first 260MB Type II PC Card hard disk drive. At only 5mm, the disk drive is less than half the thickness of all previous disk drives from Calluna. The launch of the new Callunacard(TM) will provide the best value solution for storage in mobile and transportable applications in the market place. Visitors to CeBIT will be able to see the memory card in action on the RFI stand, No F32, in Hall No 6.
A hard disk drive stores information on one or more rigid, flat, disks. The disks are mounted on a spindle, with spaces in between, and a motor on the bottom end of the spindle. To read and write to the surface of the disks, the drive uses a small electro-magnet assembly, referred to as a head, located on the end of an actuator arm. There is one head for each platter surface on the spindle. The disks are spun at a very high speed to allow the head to move quickly over the surface of the disk. Towards the other end of the actuator arm is a pivot point, and at the end is a voice coil, which moves the head.
hd_bigdisk.jpg Flash drives are so ubiquitous these days that it's hard to make a new one stand out. But flashy looks on top of solid substance never failed anyone, and that's what the Cruzer Contour brings to the party. It's got a sexy-meets-solid body, glossy black plastic on the top, solid metal bottom. It's a design scheme that seems to have oozed over from SanDisk's Sansa MP3 players, and it transfers really well.

Back view of a TiVo Series2 5xx-generation unit Many users have installed additional hard drives or larger hard drives in their TiVo boxes to increase their recording capacity. Others have designed and built Ethernet cards, a web interface (TivoWeb), and figured out how to extract, insert and transfer video among their TiVo boxes.
This utility, on the bootable CD, will then examine your system, detect all 2.5/1.8 inch hard drives installed, and then check the firmware revision of the drive. If required, it will prompt you to run the appropriate firmware update program for your drive.
