HANOVER, Germany, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- With the biggest acquisition in its 136-year history, Continental AG, Hanover, is investing itself with excellent prospects for the future in a global market that, while demanding, is equally rich in opportunities. Continental is buying the Siemens VDO Automotive AG from Siemens AG, Berlin/Munich, for 11.4 billion euros. In so doing, it is advancing to a position among the top five worldwide in this industry. On Wednesday the supervisory boards of Siemens AG and of Continental AG, in Munich and Hanover respectively, gave their consent for the transaction. Execution of the acquisition is contingent on the approval of the appropriate antitrust authorities. As per 2006, Continental and Siemens VDO Automotive AG realize aggregate annual sales of around 25 billion euros with a worldwide workforce of close to 140,000.
Hanover has an extensive Stadtbahn system, traditionally operated by üstra. The city is famous for its designer buses and tramways, the TW 6000 and TW 2000 trams being the most well-known examples.
Hanover is diverse, a very healthy mix of manufacturing, processing, trade and agriculture – a fitting tribute to the strong work ethic and dedication of its earliest settlers, the Germans. Hanover is ... growing rapidly. Studies predict that the area is growing at a rate of 32 percent, and will continue to do so until 2020. Hanover is one of the largest retail areas in Pennsylvania and one of the largest manufacturing regions. Hanover also bears another distinction – it is the “snack food capital,” home to nearly one dozen brands, including Utz Potato Chips and Snyder’s of Hanover.

Skate sale: The Hanover Hockey Association will hold its annual skate sale in conjunction with registration on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Campion Rink. This is a great opportunity to get rid of old equipment in your basement, help equip new skaters (as well as some older ones!), and raise money for HHA programs. Equipment can be dropped off between 8:00-9:30 a.m. The sale will run from 9:30am to 1:00pm.
Town of Hanover text logo: In 1761, the town of Hanover was granted a charter by the Royal Governor of New Hampshire in response to a petition from about 65 colonists in Connecticut. The grant was for land about seven miles square, divided into 68 shares, randomly divided among the proprietors. "Hannover," as it was spelled on the original charter, was named either after a local parish in Connecticut or after the House of Hannover, in honor of the reigning English king, George III.
