built 145 days ago
Relying on his favorite strategy, Hannibal headed the charge with his elephants. His troops marched in rows behind the bellowing herd. The elephants took one look at the Roman legions, and decided to return to the stable as quickly as possible.

Hannibal decided to march through Samnium to Campania. He hoped that the devastation would draw Fabius into battle. Fabius refused to let himself be drawn into battle. His troops became irritated by his “cowardly spirit”. His policies were not liked. Romans were used to facing their enemies in the field.
Beginning in 212 B.C. the tide gradually turned against Hannibal. In 211 the Romans retook Capua, despite his rapid march toward Rome to entice them away. In 207 he fought his way for the last time into a position near Rome, but the defeat and death (207) of his brother Hasdrubal on the Metaurus (Metauro) River made his position hopeless, and he withdrew into the mountains of Bruttium. Recalled to Carthage in 203 to check the advance of Scipio Africanus Major in Africa, he was decisively beaten at Zama (202).

Next, he steals his uniform and acts as if he is the guard. He is then taken via chariot to a Roman hospital, where he attacks the driver and hijacks it to go to Venice, where he steals a gondola, and makes his way to Carthage.
