Hannah House is the only transitional homeless shelter with a dual program in the Washington, DC area. Ourhousesare designed notonly to provide shelter but a home to serve as astarting point to self-sustained housing.

Hannah himself had owned the home until 1899, when his heirs sold the place to another family. Since that time, there have been reports of many strange things in the house, moving objects, phantom sounds -- and the unexplainable smell of death. Apparently, the Hannah House held a dark secret and one that would not be easily explained away by saying that one of the Hannah’s had returned to haunt the house. This secret was much darker -- and much more terrible.

Hannah House was established in 1982 as a Pennsylvania non-profit organization under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors. In the past twenty years, Hannah House has grown from a completely volunteer organiztion operation with a very small annual budge to a transitional housing, drug and alcohol program that can serve 32 women at one time.

This year, Hannah House is one of the beneficiaries of The Fannie Mae Foundation Help the Homeless Program. Fannie Mae's program raises awareness of homelessness issues and raises funds for D.C. area organizations working to prevent and end homelessness.
