Hanna Reitsch Hanna Reitsch (29 March 1912 – 24 August 1979) was a famous German test pilot. Several of her later international gliding records are still standing in 2008. Reitsch was born in Hirschberg, Silesia. The daughter of an ophthalmologist, she studied to become a medical doctor and in 1932 began her aviation career.
Hanna Reitsch's father was an opthamologist and wanted her to be a doctor. Her mother taught her a simple faith in God. Above all else, Hanna (1912-1979) wanted to fly. As a result of these influences, young Hanna planned to be a flying missionary doctor. However, over time, the flying influence won out.
German pilot Hanna Reitsch flies to Adolf Hitler in April 1945: By 1945 German pilot Hanna Reitsch had received an Iron Cross and was one of the most accomplished fliers in the world. She had become a Luftwaffe test pilot in 1937 and flew several prototype planes and jets. In April 1945, Reitsch was a passenger when General Robert Ritter von Greim flew into beleaguered Berlin to meet with Adolf Hitler. Russian flak injured Greim's ankle, and Reitsch landed the plane in a rubble-strewn Berlin street near the Führer's bunker. When Adolf Hitler refused to fly to safety three days later, the plane, with Reitsch at the controls, took off amid a torrent of small arms and artillery fire. Reitsch was briefly interned after the war, and lived until 1979.
Hanna Reitsch dies in Frankfurt a/M. Reitsch was an aviator who became the first German woman to gain a captain's license, the first woman helicopter pilot and the first woman test pilot. She was one of the test pilots of the rocket plane. She was the first woman to be awarded the Iron Cross (1942). She was one of the last people to see Hitler in his bunker and flew the last German combat plane out of Berlin. She continued her flying career and continued to set records after the war.
reitsch_1_250.jpg --> Hanna Reitsch was born in Germany in 1912. She wanted to be a flying missionary doctor but, after the Versailles Treaty had clipped Germany's wings, she became an excellent glider pilot. She set records, she worked as a movie stand-in flyer, and she went on an expedition to study weather in South America. Hitler made her an honorary flight captain, the first woman to receive that award.
Hanna Reitsch was invited to the White House in 1961 to meet President John F. Kennedy. She wasn't wearing her self-designed uniform but wore a dress and carried a handbag. Edit International
