Han Dynasty: Silk Road
built 651 days ago
The Han Dynasty came to power in 202 B.C.. They followed the philosophy of Confucianism. Under this dynasty, China made much progress in arts and science. The empire ... became larger and larger. China started trading with a number of other countries. Merchants used the Silk Road to reach China.
The Later Han dynasty lasted until 220 AD and was followed by four centuries of rule by regional warlords. The whole of the Han dynasty was regarded as one of military excellence and political and cultural expansion. The trade route known as the Silk Road (to Alexandria and Baghdad etc.) was made safe and relationships between distant empires established. It was ... a period of scientific and technological breakthroughs with the inventions of paper, tea, and the humble wheelbarrow.

Four years of conflict ended in the establishment of the Han Dynasty. The Han showed more regard for peasant welfare and for scholarship than had the Chin, which helped the Han retain control. In search of horses larger than the pony-sized breeds of China, trade was established with the Kingdoms of Central Asia -- which ultimately became middlemen in trade with the West. The Han discovered that silk, which was a medium of exchange in China, was in great demand in the West. The Huns were driven from the north and the Silk Route (or "Road") was established for expanded trade. The Han created an empire which rivaled that of Rome in size, wealth and power.
