Han Dynasty: Period
built 626 days ago
During the Han dynasty (206 BC-220 AD), political stability and economic prosperity gave rise to a moneyed, land-owning class that began to imitate the elaborate funerary arrangements that were previously the preserve of emperors and their relatives. A wide variety of objects and figures reflecting the daily life of the Han period were placed in tombs built by wealthy commoners. All aspects of life, from the most serious to the most frivolous, were reproduced in sculptural form.

The Han continued much of the administrative system introduced by the Qin dynasty. To serve this administration, they encouraged the development of a class of scholar-officials, trained in standard texts and codified laws. The élite group shared a similar ideology, but ... a similar standard of material life. By this period, highly organized workshops were mass-producing weapons, bronze vessels, lacquers and textiles for use by the official class.
There were specific stipulations on colors of court garments in the Han Dynasty. Officers must wear garments according to the five time periods, i.e. cyan garments in the spring, red in the first two months of the summer, yellow in the last month of the summer, white in the autumn and black in the winter.
