Haifa has a subway, the Carmelit funicular. It is a must-use if you want to get up or down the mountain from downtown. However, it only extends to a small part of Haifa. If you need to go further, you can buy a train ticket which includes a transfer to a bus for the remainder of your journey.

The artist's village of Ein Hod where over 90 artists and craftsmen have studios and exhibitions.[22] The Mount Carmel national park contains caves where Neanderthal and early Homo Sapiens remains were found, and was also the location of biblical events such as Elijah's confrontation with the Ba'al prophets, and where now another Carmelite monastery is located. Since the days of Shoghi Effendi, the Bahá'í world has been engaged in the construction of the five buildings of the Arc on Mount Carmel, Haifa. Together the five buildings stand along an arc or semicircle, and are made up of nearly symmetrical structures on either side of the central building. The two outer buildings are the International Archives and the International Library. The two inner buildings are the Centre for the Study of the Sacred Texts and the International Teaching Centre. The central building is the Universal House of Justice.

You can walk around Haifa, and it's beautiful, but if you plan to move from area to area, consider public transportation, especially the cable car (Carmelit), since the hills can wear you out. If you prefer to walk, take the "path of the thousand stairs" that starts from the scenic lookout on Yefe Nof Street (Panorama) in Central Carmel and leads down the mountain past the Baha'i Shrine and the German Colony and ends downtown.
