Haganah: Attacks
built 263 days ago
Haganah combines its elements in very unique ways to create new approaches. Although common attack scenarios are covered in Haganah, Haganah is not a scenario based system per se. It focuses on achieving certain common objectives in virtually all scenarios, thereby making it easier to learn and more immediately effective than many systems. Finally, unlike many other self-defense systems, Haganah does not use a hierarchical belt system where it can take years to learn the most effective advanced material. It uses a rotation system where substantially all hand-to-hand defensive tactics material is presented within three to four months. Only one belt can be achieved- Black Belt- in recognition of an expert practitioner.

Although the Haganah didn't play an active role in the Deir Yassin massacre, the Haganah commander David Shaltiel is said to have allowed (albeit, with reluctance) forces of the Irgun and Lehi to execute the attack against the village. (Kfir, Ilan, Yediot Ahronot 4.4.72) Haganah units assisted them by providing mortar fire, they later withdrew from the area before the massacre begun. (Levi, Yitzhak, op. cit. p343-344; Pail and Isseroff, op. cit.)

Haganah calls these carefully tested positions of control and dominance"points of reference." The funneling effect of the system is designed to bring the opponent to the points of reference. From each of the four points of reference, students are taught virtually identical sequences of strikes (called "objective" options) to be used to restrain, incapacitate or terminate the attacker. This vastly reduces the number of techniques a student must become capable of,making learning and muscle memory programming (reactive programming) very fast.

Haganah teaches effective self-defense strategies to use to respond to the most common and most severe types of attacks. Continuous training of these same techniques reinforces them, so when an attack happens the response is immediate and natural. Practitioner's bodies "know" what to do to protect them. Haganah does not require years of training. After just one class students experience how easy it is to learn - and are amazed at what they can do. Just a few months yields proficiency.

According to El-Khalidi, the passive stance of the British troops in Tiberias.was an encouraging signal for the Haganah to carry on the launching of Operation Misparayim to attack and occupy Haifa, and they were right. On 21 April the British suddenly evacuated the residential quarters of Haifa.

Haganah capitalizes on that. It uses each one of the practitioner’s touches—be it a punch, elbow, gouge, pinch, etc.—to momentarily short-circuit the attacker’s thought process and interrupt his mental and physical flow.
