Habbo Hotel is an online virtual community where people use avatars to move around and chat. There are numerous public rooms as well as user-generated private rooms. Players can buy tokens via online credit card transactions and use them to buy furniture and other props for their rooms. Habbo's virtual interface makes it easy to exploit. The virtual Hotel is the chat room of Habbo. The Hotel consists of a client made using Adobe Shockwave technologies. Once logged in, the Hotel can be accessed via a popup window on the website. When a user accesses the Hotel they are brought to a screen colloquially known as Hotel View. From this screen, members can contact another user via the Habbo Console, which acts as the main form of communication throughout all areas of the Hotel and use the Navigator to navigate their way to a chat room.

Habbo Hotel is a virtual world for teens, created by a company in Finland called Sulake Labs. This busy site uses a hotel metaphor as its theme complete with a "lobby" gateway and private "guest rooms." The hotels are often so busy it can take a few tries to get into the main rooms, but there are always a plenty of guest rooms to choose from as well.

Instead of a MySpace or a home page, you've got an actual, personalized room of your own to invite chat buddies back to-- though Habbo provides customizable profile web pages that serve a similar purpose, too. Conceptually, it's rather interesting to consider; much discussion these days goes on around the idea of a "3D internet," where images and approximation of actual human interaction gradually replace text-based, read-only formats.
