Guns N' Roses: Bands
built 348 days ago
gnrlogo.jpg Nirvana's Nevermind hit number one in early 1992, suddenly making Guns N' Roses -- with all of their pretensions, impressionistic videos, models, and [R]ock star excesses -- seem very uncool. Rose handled the change by becoming a dictator, or at least a petty tyrant; his in-concert temper tantrums became legendary, even going so far as to incite a riot in Montreal. Stradlin left by the end of 1991, and with his departure the band lost their best songwriter; he was replaced by ex-Kill for Thrills guitarist Gilby Clarke. The band didn't fully grasp the shift in hard rock until 1993, when they released an album of punk covers, The Spaghetti Incident?; it received some good reviews, but the band failed to capture the reckless spirit of not only the original versions, but their own Appetite for Destruction. By the middle of 1994, there were rumors flying that the band was about to break up, since Rose wanted to pursue a new, more industrial direction and Slash wanted to stick with their blues-inflected hard rock. The band remained in limbo for several more years, and Slash resurfaced in 1995 with the side project Slash's Snakepit and an LP, It's Five O'Clock Somewhere.
In 1990, Guns N' Roses returned to the studio to begin recording their most ambitious undertaking yet. During the recording session of "Civil War", drummer Steven Adler was unable to perform well due to his struggles with cocaine and heroin addiction. While the band had played Civil War with Adler live once with no problems [6], his difficulties now caused the band to do nearly 30 takes [7]. As a result, Adler was fired in August 1990, to be replaced by former Cult drummer Matt Sorum. A few months prior, keyboardist Dizzy Reed became the sixth member of the group when he joined as a full time member. The band fired their manager, Alan Niven, in May 1991, replacing him with Doug Goldstein.

The band fired their manager, Alan Niven, in May 1991, replacing him with Doug Goldstein. According to a 1991 cover story by Rolling Stone magazine, Rose forced the dismissal of Niven (against the wishes of some of his bandmates) by refusing to complete the albums until he was replaced.[12]
gnr1.jpg Guns N’ Roses lived the Rock ‘N’ Roll lifestyle---and it cost them their band. A product of the L.A. sleaze-rock scene, they were formed by guitarist Tracii Guns (soon-to-be L.A. Guns guitarist). They went through many band names in the early 80’s: Hollywood Rose, Faster Pussycat (later, the members that played with Axl & Tracii in Faster Pussycat reformed and released some of their own albums), and finally Guns N’ Roses. Known for Axl’s outspoken and sometimes entirely stupid and moronic actions, they finally split apart in
