Gundam Wing: Wing Gundam
built 141 days ago
Gundam Wing is an alternative Gundam Storyline, set in the "after colony" timeline. It focuses on 5 boys who have been charged with defending the survival of the colonies (which are like tiny planets inhabited by settlers from Earth and their descendants). Each boy has his own Gundam, and is from an entirely different colony.

Picking up the action one year after the conclusion of the "Gundam Wing" Japanese television series, Earth and the Space Colonies join forces to form the Earth Sphere Unified Nation. The Gundam pilots find themselves attempting to rebuild their lives in this new, peaceful era and have sent their weapons of war into the sun to be destroyed. But when a high-ranking government official is kidnapped, the pilots get called back into action.

Gundam Wing consists of 49 episodes and three further OAVs (released separately as Endless Waltz, available on VHS and DVD). The series fits within the rubric of the earlier Gundam designs, to the point where several characters in GW are eerily similar to their predecessors. There are five main characters-- fifteen year-olds whose duty is to infiltrate Earth from the space colonies with advanced mobile suits called "Gundams", and attack the predominant military power oppressing the people of space. The boys are pretty, angsty, and pretty angsty. They ... have names that correspond to numbers in various languages, as do several minor cast members, which lends itself to handy mathematics among the shippers (see below). Though the boys are great, the series gets its A+ rating for the plot.

Wing Gundam is abandoned multiple times in the series, as well as actually being destroyed twice. In the very first episode, after Heero battles with it in the atmosphere against a Leo and two Aries mobile suits, it crashes into the Pacific Ocean. Heero then attempts to destroy it to prevent OZ from getting to it, but it gets recovered by Duo Maxwell and Heero later repairs his Gundam with parts from the Duo's Gundam. Afterwards Heero uses it on several missions against OZ, but during a mission in Siberia, self-detonates it when the colonies are taken hostage. It is later repaired by Zechs Merquise and given back to Heero, but is soon after abandoned again when Heero travels into space. Some time later, it is discovered by Sally Po and sent to the Sanc Kingdom, where Heero arrives at later and is reunited with Wing Gundam again.

Wing Gundam is heavily damaged multiple times, as well as actually being destroyed twice, in the anime series. First, it is crash landed on earth in Episode 1 after battle in the atmosphere with a Leo and two Aries mobile suits. Heero eventually repairs his gundam with parts from the Gundam Deathscythe. Next it is self detonated in Episode 10 and is rebuilt by Zechs Merquise. It is later damaged in the right knee area in episode 33, following a heavy battle with OZ's new Virgo mobile suits. OZ recovers the suit and has it repaired, and Lady Une uses it to save Treize Khushrenada in episode 46 where it is destroyed for the second time from Battleship Libra's main cannon fire.
