Gundam: Series
built 657 days ago
The main theme of all the various Gundam series is always the harsh depiction of the atrocities of war. All the machines, including the Gundams, are always depicted realistically; that is, they run out of energy and ammunition, they break and malfunction like all machines eventually do. The technology, at least that of the Universal Century, is practical and is either derived from true science, including Lagrange points in space, the O'Neill cylinder as a living environment, or at least well-explained technology that is potentially feasible, and/or requiring only a few fictional elements inserted into real science to function. (Minovsky Physics, as a means of energy production from helium-3).

The Gundam multi-verse is now one of the most complex in all of anime. Gundam features a plethora of films, OVAs, limted series, multiple series that tie together, and the occasional series that doesn't even seem to take place anywhere in the same overall timeline, Gundam can seem like a confusing mess to a newcomer.

This is a turn based strategy game covering the events of the first Gundam series. It was released in 1997. The bulk of the game is played from an overhead, isometric perspective with very small icons representing the units. Individual combat is depicted in 3-D cut scenes similar to the Front Mission game series from Square. The game is very detailed with a multitude of stats and options. Those who don't speak Japanese should be able to figure out how to play with a little trial and error.

In 1979, before the end of the anime, Yoshiyuki Tomino himself created the first novelizations of the original Gundam anime series. The novels, issued as a series of three books, allowed him to depict his story in a more sophisticated, adult, and detailed fashion. Along with this adaptation came several major changes to the story. For example, Amuro is already a member of the Federation military at the time of the initial Zeon attack on Side 7, and the main characters in the Federation serve on the White Base-class ships Pegasus and Pegasus II rather than the Pegasus-class White Base.[3] Additionally, the war continues well into the year UC 0080 in the novels, whereas it concludes at the beginning of that year in the anime series.

Viz Comics has republished Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's original Gundam as a series of graphic novels. This is the "real" Gundam, where Amuro Ray battles Char Aznable, and White Base must defend itself from continual attacks of the Zeon forces.

The series was never animated (although a short animated TV commercial for an S Gundam model kit was made) or released as manga. However, the model kits continue to be popular with Gundam fans and new Sentinel designs crop up every now and then.
