In the Cosmic Era works, the word Gundam is never used in an official sense, apart from in the Chinese language translations of the manga. However, there are numerous mobile suits which share the properties of Gundams from other series. In an informal homage to other Gundam series, all of these unique mobile suits use operating systems with complicated acronyms, and these are always backronyms of the word Gundam. Most characters simply refer to these units by their names, such as Duel, Buster, Blitz, Strike, or Aegis, but a select few characters refer to them as Gundams, a trend which started with Kira Yamato and spread to a few close friends, as well as the subordinates of Neo Roanoke, who subconsciously remembers the term despite a form of amnesia. The name is used widely outside the animation in the merchandising of Cosmic Era toys and models.

Everything for the Gundam fan except the actual full scale working Gundam... Mobile Suit Gundam: Ecole Du Ciel is an intriguing addition to the internationally acclaimed SF saga. It is illustrated and written by Haruhiko Mikimoto. His designs and characters re-defined Tatsunoko Production during their anime output in the eighties. (One cannot forget his work on Macross and Orguss.) To see him working for Sunrise Productions product (even if it's only in a manga) is most interesting to say the least.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire Featuring a variety of Mobile Suits from the Gundam franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam sets players in the latter stages of The One Year War. Players will have the opportunity to be a commander of their own Mobile Suit battalion for either the Federation or Zeon Mobile Suit Assault Force. As players move through the ranks, they will be able to gain access to new Mobile Suits and engage in battles with more capable pilots at their command. With a battalion at their disposal, players face a number of strategic options to choose from. In order to succeed, it will be vital for players to know about specific destructible parts on Mobile Suits, vulnerable enemy facilities and whether or not to engage enemies with either short or long range combat. Teamwork is ... be a key component to the survival of every mission.

Following the success of the Mobile Suit Gundam TV series, Yoshiyuki Tomino returned in 1981 and reworked the footage into three separate compilation movies. The first two movies, Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam: Soldiers of Sorrow, were released in 1981. The third movie, Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space, was released in 1982.
Kiddy Grade DVD Mobile Suit Gundam was originally planned to run for 52 episodes, but due to low ratings, the series was cut down to 39. Sunrise... was given a one-month extension to finish the series; thus bringing up the episode count to 43. Much like Star Trek, Gundam's popularity sparked through episode reruns after the show's cancellation.
Due to the sheer popularity of the Gundam franchise, especially the Mobile Suit design, several Original Design series were published. These series are drawings and precise specifications for additional Mobile suit units not found in the original animated material.
