Gundam Seed is the latest in a series of mecha anime that is currently 26 years old. The story revolves around a war between the Earth Alliance and ZAFT (Zodiac Allied of Freedom Treaty) treaty. Ages ago a man altered his genes to bring out his full genetic potential. He became the first coordinator. He announced this in the hopes of inspiring others to strive to be the best.

The biggest problem with Gundam 00 so far is the battle choreography. Even Seed and Seed Destiny, before the horror recap and footage recycling, had better battle sequences than Gundam 00. G00 suffers from the "oh-let-us-slaughter-the-grunts-who-move-illogically" syndrome, which is designed to make the audience feel good about the Gundams and hence purchase merchandise. The similarities are glaringly obvious with Full Metal Panic, a great series ... flawed by a similar problem. In its case, the lambda driver ruins the show, while in G00 it is the overpoweredness of the Gundams. Setsuna coming to battle with his old friend in his guerilla days also seems a complete rip-off of FMP’s Kashim and gatling-gun friend arc.

The Gundam Seed series begins a year after the outbreak of war between the Earth Alliance and the rebel space colonists known as ZAFT. Radical new technologies, including advanced weapons called mobile suits, gave ZAFT the edge over the Earth Alliance. With much of Earth now under the space colonists’ control, the Alliance begins a desperate secret program to develop its own state-of-the-art mobile suits. Thus, Gundam Seed is born.
