built 234 days ago
Eminem, Destiny's Child and Lil Bow Wow have been included in the 2002 edition of the Guinness Book Of Records. Eminem has been named the fastest-selling rap artist in history, for his Marshall Mathers LP. Destiny's Child have a place for spending the longest time at number one with Independent Women Part 1. The single spent 11 weeks at the top in the United States last year. Lil Bow Wow features in the book for being the youngest solo rapper to have a number one in the US charts.

After founding the Guinness Book of Records at 107 Fleet Street, the first 198-page edition was bound on 27 August 1955 and went to the top of the British best seller lists by Christmas. "It was a marketing give away—it wasn't supposed to be a money maker," said Beaver. The following year it launched in the U.S., and it sold 70,000 copies.
Apparently the Guinness Book of Records removed all references to alcohol-related accomplishments in 1991 in fear of litigation. One man has put the redacted bits online, albeit from a 1979 edition. [CalWineries.com]

Sir Hugh’s idea became reality when Norris and Ross McWhirter, who had been running a fact-finding agency in London, were commissioned to compile what became The Guinness Book of Records. The first edition was bound on August 27, 1955, and went to the top of the British bestseller lists by Christmas that year.
[ Editor's Note: Recent evidence has come to light subsequent to the publication of this edition of the Guinness Book of Records that throws this "Twin Claim" into serious doubt. More details later.]
