Greta Garbo: Screen
built 643 days ago
As screen legend Greta Garbo famously put it, "I want to be left alone." Most celebrities would concur especially when they're on their honeymoon. "The number one thing celebrities look for are secluded and private places, out of the reach of the paparazzi," said noted wedding planner Mindy Weiss, who has organized nuptials for Jessica Simpson, Gwen Stefani and Adam Sandler.

In 1955, four years after becoming a U.S. citizen, Garbo received a special Oscar for "her unforgettable screen performances." She died in her adopted hometown of New York City on April 15, 1990.
Garbo Tennessee Williams was one of those fans who lamented that Garbo retired too early. In his memoirs, he describes his disappointment after she vehemently rejected his advice to return to the screen.

Garbo's career spanned only 19 years. In 1941, at the age of 36, she made the last of her 27 movies, a slight comedy called ''Two Faced Woman.'' She went into what was to be temporary retirement, but she never returned to the screen.
In 1928, MGM announced Garbo would play a woman who hypnotizes men in a screenplay written by Elinor Glyn, who had written it for Clara Bow. Garbo rejected it and the film was not made.
